KANHA
The Realm of the Sal Trees

A timeless wilderness of lush meadows, towering sal forests and misty valleys, Kanha is the crown jewel of central India. With over 1,000 species of flowering plants and around 70 varieties of trees, it is a true botanical paradise. Verdant sal forests, bamboo thickets, open grasslands and shimmering lakes sustain a dazzling variety of life, from tiny insects to apex predators.
Kanha’s greatest conservation success is the revival of the hard ground swamp deer or barasingha, once on the brink of extinction. Today, over a thousand of these golden-antlered deer roam the meadows, where their mating calls echo through the forest. Spotting them in their natural habitat, gracefully grazing or moving through the open fields, is a truly special experience.

The park is also renowned as one of the best places to see tigers in central India, with a healthy population thriving across its diverse zones. Watching a tiger emerge from the sal canopy or stride through the meadows is an unforgettable moment for any wildlife enthusiast. Home to the Gond and Baiga tribes, Kanha also holds a rich cultural heritage that is deeply intertwined with the forest.
