ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Mithun Hunugund is a wildlife expert, photographer and conservationist with an unmatched passion for the planet’s wild spaces. Born and raised in Dandeli, in the heart of the Western Ghats, home to one of the highest populations of the elusive black panther, his love for the jungle began early and has only deepened with time.
A master at tracking and studying big cats, Mithun has spent years documenting their lives and capturing their raw beauty through his lens. He has worked on a National Geographic film featuring the black panther. His photographs have also appeared in some of the world’s most prestigious media outlets, including National Geographic, Bloomberg and The Times.
But for him, wildlife is more than just photography, it is about understanding, respecting and protecting these fragile landscapes. Leopards, in particular, have always been his greatest fascination. Their agility, grace and untamed spirit fuel his passion for conservation. As he says, “The woods are mysterious and unlocking them is my passion.”
Through Mithun on Safari, he offers immersive wildlife experiences that go beyond mere sightings. With a deep understanding of animal behaviour, gained from tracking individual big cats across generations, he has an unparalleled ability to anticipate their movements in the wild. His safaris are not just about exploration; they are about seeing the jungle through his eyes, reliving the stories he has witnessed and fostering a lasting connection with nature.

At his core, Mithun is a storyteller of the wild, using his expertise to inspire awareness and conservation. For him, every journey into the jungle is an opportunity to share its wonders, ensuring that people not only visit the wild but truly understand it.

OUR ETHOS
A safari is not just about what you see; it is about how it makes you feel. It speaks in the rustle of leaves, the distant call of a predator or the silent gaze of an elephant at dawn. These are the moments that stay with you forever.
At Mithun on Safari, we go beyond checklists and fleeting sightings. We believe in ethical, immersive wildlife experiences that foster connection, curiosity and respect. Our journeys are guided by a simple truth: a true explorer does not merely seek the wild but stands to protect it.

Every journey we craft is rooted in authenticity and guided by a deep respect for nature. Each step we take is mindful, each encounter purposeful. We support local communities, tread lightly on the land and champion conservation not out of obligation, but as a way of life.
This is not just a safari.
It is a way of seeing, a way of being and a way of giving back.
WHY US?
A Class Apart in the Wild
We do not just take you on a safari; we take you deep into the world of big cats. With unmatched expertise in tracking and understanding some of the world’s most elusive predators, we craft safaris that are thrilling, ethical and deeply personal.
