Where the Eastern and Western Ghats Unite

Perched at the confluence of the Western and Eastern Ghats, Biligiri Ranganatha Tiger Reserve (B.R. Hills) is a hidden wilderness, both enigmatic and breathtaking. This unique sanctuary serves as a vital wildlife corridor, linking two of India’s most important biodiversity hotspots. The name Biligiri, meaning “white rocky cliff”, is derived from the striking limestone outcrop that houses the revered Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
It is a land of misty peaks, dense evergreen forests and ancient traditions, where nature and spirituality coexist in harmony. Accommodation here is located within the forest itself and it is one of the very few places in India where you stay right in the core area of the jungle. You may wake up to the cacophony of birds, the roar of a tiger, the urgency of alarm calls or even the sight of a leopard outside your room.

B.R. Hills is home to an astonishing variety of wildlife and is a paradise for birdwatchers. Its strategic location allows for a unique blend of flora and fauna from both mountain ranges, making it one of the most ecologically significant landscapes in the country. The Soliga tribal community, indigenous to this land, has lived in harmony with the forest for centuries, adding to the region’s rich cultural and ecological heritage.
